Getting back into exercise after an illness can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The old baby steps method works perfectly in this situation. I had an illness that has kept me from exercising for 4 months, but now I am ready to begin again! Starting and stopping exercise is never good, but as long as you START again is key.
I have started by doing some walking. Walking, actually, is one of the best exercises you can do and anyone can do it! Pick a route that is safe and get out and walk it. Time your walking and also see how far it is. This will help you see your progress as you walk faster or go farther. I am beginning with a half mile and do 2 halves at a time when I can. I have pulled some sort of muscle in one of my legs so I have to take it a little easy until it heals, but I am not letting that stop me.
When you have an injury in your lower body, don’t let that hault you from working on your upper body, it’s not an excuse not to exercise! I am beginning my yoga again and have realized that I had great upper body strength 4 months ago, now to get it back again!
It’s great to have someone to report to how your exercise is going. Accountability always works. If you don’t have a buddy, feel free to join me on my adventure of getting fit again. I love comments and love to hear how people are doing. So, don’t wait, start today!
