A rainy Saturday am…a nice day to sleep in…But Not For Me! Got my running attire on, got my running shoes, got my music in my ears and out the door I went!
It had rained very hard during the night, temp was a nice 70 degrees/21.1 celsius and there was a slight breeze. I did my usual warm up of walking a half mile and then started my running. I was motivated to run a mile and was hoping to run an extra half before I had to walk again. Well…..I had a few aches that kept me from running that half, so I walked the half and resumed running for a mile then a cool down half mile of walking. I was a little disappointed in myself because I told myself I WAS going to run straight through for a 1.5 mile but I just couldn’t do it.
What I realized and really already knew….MY ABS ARE In BAD SHAPE! Strong abs are what help you run longer and stronger. I know that, but haven’t put the time in for my ab exercises. Starting today I am resuming my ab exercises. I like to do planks, which are great for toning your whole body and I’m going to add the crunches, sit ups and leg raises. I don’t enjoy doing ab exercises but they are totally necessary.
Having a Strong Core is the key to help you do well in any aerobic exercise. I have included a few links at the end that show you how to do: Correct crunches, sit ups, leg raises (which work the lower abs) and the plank. Take a minute to watch them to make sure when you do these exercises that you are doing them correctly.
Keep up your exercise an remember to Put Your Time In! Happy Saturday!
