Yesterday I took a break from my running and just walked forward and backward for 3 miles. Another beautiful day in the south! My pace was good and backwards was very balanced and smooth! Sometimes it’s nice to deviate from your workout and do something a little different. It helps you not get into a rut and disliking your routine. Changing it up is key to avoid boredom and muscle memory. This morning I did some Yoga and strength training with weights. I am a little mad at myself for letting my yoga and weights slide away a bit. It is amazing how quickly your strength can diminish when you don’t keep up with it. This week I will make sure to alternate my running and strength days. I refuse to lose any more! Running and walking is great exercise, although if you don’t add the upper body strength training your lower body will be strong but your upper body will be lacking. Runners can be guilty of this and I have been one of them lately. So, make sure you do your cardio but also add some upper body strength training too. Remember, when using weights, don’t do two days in a row to the same muscles. Alternating lower body and upper body though is perfectly fine. Happy Saturday and Happy Cinco de Mayo!
