Our bodies are amazing machines. It’s so nice to know that our muscles do remember! As I was running along this morning I could feel my muscles begin to feel different than they did a few days ago. My running didn’t seem as difficult and my legs didn’t feel like they were full of lead. I realized it was Muscle Memory! On my very first run this past week, after my hiatus from running, my muscles were choosing NOT to remember, but today they realized I was serious about running again. LOL!
This morning the weather was beautiful! The temperature was perfect and there was a nice breeze too. I put my earbuds in and cranked up “Billy Joel”. For me, listening to music helps me enjoy my running. I listen to many different artists. I like to choose songs that have energy. It helps me to keep a better pace. This morning I told myself that I was going to run farther today. I find if you tell yourself how far you want to go, your body will go along with it. So, I decided that I wanted to run 2 miles today instead of the 1 mile I have done the last 2 times out. I am still doing my interval training of walking a half, running a half, walking a half etc. I am taking it easy with my knee that has been out of sorts. Hopefully in the next week I can do full running and just a walk for a cool down. That is my goal. It’s good to set some personal goals so you have something out there to work for.
Today I felt my endorphins kicking in. You know that feeling of “I can do anything and anything in my life is possible!” That feeling. This is why I like running. It not only helps me lose weight, and stay healthy, it clears my mind of self doubt and those little voices in my head that tell me I can’t do something. Releasing endorphins chases all these thoughts away.
If running is not for you, and not everyone can or wants to do it, do some sort of high energy cardio. Biking is a great alternative, it’s not hard on your body like running, but it will give you a high and release endorphins. Get out there and do something today!
