It’s not just something everyone says to make you do your ab exercises….it’s the truth. Ab workouts are not my fav, but they do more for you than you realize. Once your abs are strong, your running, and your other exercising becomes more fun and a little easier.
I have been trying to do more ab workouts on my off running days. I’m not always good about it, but I am trying to remember. I think it is beginning to pay off a little for me. Saturday I ran 3 miles without having to stop and stretch between miles. I ran a different route that did not pass my house with each mile, making me go all the way to hit my goal of 3 miles. I was very excited I accomplished this. It felt awesome to be running a 5k again.
Today I ran 3 miles again! I felt even stronger than I did on Saturday. My core felt great and the nagging left back pain that I get every now and then didn’t play in today’s run. A very good thing!
On my days off from running, I have been doing free weights for my upper body, squats, planks and other ab exercises. I have recently started to learn how to do the Ripstick. It’s similar to skateboarding, although requires balance in order to keep it moving. It’s a great for the abs and much more fun than crunches. 🙂
Running can help you have a better attitude and think more positively. Running, or any other exercise where you can challenge yourself is as good for your mind as it is for your body. When we challenge and push ourselves to do more in an exercise, we can transfer that same energy to other parts of our life to do more. Don’t neglect your exercise and remember to challenge yourself. Your mind will love you for it!
I have signed up for a half marathon in October. I find having a scheduled race is always good to help keep yourself motivated. This half marathon will be in Myrtle Beach, SC. It’s a great course, flat, so great for beginning runners.
