Ever have those mornings, when a problem enters your mind right before your exit out the door to run? That was me this morning. Well, I had to tell my mind to shush! Nothing is going to stop me on my running day! I put my ear buds in, turned my music to Bruno Mars and out the door I went! When your mind is trying to talk your body out of running, or any sort of exercise, don’t give into that! Learn to turn your problems off before you open the door to start your exercise. I try not to think about anything unpleasant or stressful, once I open the door.
Once your open the door, take a deep breath and embrace the exercise you are about to do. It really is mind over matter. You can choose to continue to stress while you run, or you can train your mind to think about good thoughts while you run. Exercise should be an escape. It’s a time to release, let go, breathe and let your mind and body work hard for something good. Not Problem Solving Time!
I did a quarter mile warm up and then began running. I was shooting for 2 miles of running, but 1.5 was my limit today. I ended with a half mile cool down. I also did some walking backwards. Walking backwards is great! It takes more energy, which burns more calories!
So, remember when you exercise, take a break from your problems, and enjoy your escape with exercise! You might be surprised that you forget your were stressed before you started!
