
After 7 months of nursing, some sort of injury, to my right leg, I decided today was the day to begin my running again! I have been walking a 4 mile route so today I ran a lot of it. I couldn’t believe how wonderful I felt. Oh how I have missed my running! I don’t know what it is about it, but even a slow jog makes me feel invincible and clear minded.
When you have an injury it is important to not over do it, but it is necessary to keep exercising around that injury. There is always something you can do. In this busy world we all have our share of stress and exercising is the best way to help manage stress. A glass of wine at night is nice, but nothing compares to exercising.
When I exercise, whether it is walking, running, or lifting weights I try to only think about my exercising. Concentrating on your exercise is similar to meditation, as you are only thinking about what you are doing at that moment. You are giving your mind a break!
I am looking forward to my next outing of running. I usually like to run every other day which gives my muscles a break. But, I will walk on my off running days and do upper body weights.
Get out there and exercise! You will be amazed how much better your day is when you keep your body healthy!
