Respect is something that we all learn, or are suppose to learn, as a very young child. We are told to “Respect our elders”, “Show our teachers respect and “Respect our parents.” But I ask you, does everyone deserve respect? I say the answer is yes. We all are human beings living on this earth trying to figure out this big puzzle of life. Some of us may learn things faster than others, while some of us may take our whole life to figure things out. Just because we are all on different timelines of life doesn’t mean we don’t deserve respect.
At times, it may be difficult for us to give others respect because they don’t think the way we do, do things the same way as us, or react the same way to situations as us. This is where we need to remember they deserve the same respect that we expect for ourselves. Every person in this world has worth. One of the reasons we may perceive respect is not deserved for someone is they themselves do not feel they are worthy and this feeling is then projected onto us. Maybe, instead of judging someone we could extend a hand to help them. Sometimes just a simple smile can help someone tremendously. Have it in your heart to think kindly of others, it will help this be a better world for all of us.
