I have recently started to add Dry Brushing to my morning routine before I take a shower. I bought two dry brushes, one is hand held and the other has a long handle for the back. I bought these brushes back during the 2020 pandemic. Amazon delivery peeps came to my door a lot during this time! Lol! What else do you do when you are shut in? Lol! Anyway I used them some but then got out of the habit. I noticed them the other day and had forgotten how beneficial dry brushing is! I feel so good after I dry brush, shower then moisturize.
ANY AGE benefits from dry brushing! I am personally 62 and my skin has changed over the years. When I was young, I had to wash my hair everyday and my skin was oily so moisturizing wasn’t that necessary, or so I thought! lol Now my skin is normal to dry. So dry brushing is really important now! It gently removes any dead skin cells so moisturizer can penetrate much easier.
How To Dry Brush. I start with my feet. I do long strokes towards the heart and slowly go up my leg, all the way to the pelvic bone. Once I have reached the top I start at the bottom again and go up another part of my leg. It can tickle a bit! Don’t press to hard, but hard enough that you feel it. After my legs I do my arms. I do my back but that is usually as much as I do most of the time. When I have more time I will do more. It’s a good idea though to do your whole body.
Dry brushing for the skin is a simple yet effective practice that offers several benefits for overall skin health. Six reasons why incorporating dry brushing into your skincare routine is a good idea:
- Exfoliation: Dry brushing helps remove dead skin cells, promoting a smoother and more radiant complexion. It unclogs pores, preventing ingrown hairs and promoting healthier-looking skin.
- Stimulates Blood Circulation: The gentle brushing action stimulates blood flow to the skin’s surface. Improved circulation means better distribution of nutrients and oxygen to skin cells, contributing to a healthier appearance.
- Cellulite Reduction: While not a miracle cure, dry brushing may help reduce the appearance of cellulite by promoting lymphatic drainage and improving blood circulation in areas prone to dimpling.
- Lymphatic System Support: Dry brushing supports the lymphatic system, helping the body detoxify by promoting the flow of lymph fluid. This can contribute to a healthier immune system and overall well-being.
- Energizing Ritual: The act of dry brushing can be invigorating and provide a quick energy boost. Incorporating it into your routine can be a revitalizing self-care practice that sets a positive tone for the day.
- Stress Reduction: The rhythmic brushing motion can have a calming effect on the nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. It’s a simple and accessible way to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine.
